A unit fails at night. Someone needs to know what it serves, and which sheet shows it. Without that, the crew traces wires and opens ceilings.
For hospitals, campuses and the firms that design for them
DrawSort reads the title blocks in a PDF drawing set and lists every sheet it reads. Then it checks the set against the sheet index printed in it and lists, by sheet number, every sheet that index lists but it did not find in the set.

The moment the drawings matter
A unit fails at night. Someone needs to know what it serves, and which sheet shows it. Without that, the crew traces wires and opens ceilings.
A survey is coming. There are several copies of the life safety plans across old uploads and folders, and nobody is sure which floor is missing one.
The owner sends scans from 1998, two addenda and an architect's background. Before design starts, someone types the sheet index into a spreadsheet and checks the sheet index by eye.

Everyone works from the same drawings. Each job opens on the question it asks first.
One PDF in. The index, the gaps, and where things are.
Sheet number, title, revision, date, scale and discipline, from the title block. A value the title block does not give is left blank, except a title, date or revision filled from the set's sheet index (marked as taken from it) or a discipline guessed from title words (marked for review).
DrawSort reads the sheet index printed in the set, typed or scanned, and compares it with the sheets it read. You see each sheet the index lists that it did not find, by number and title.
Two sheets with one number are listed together with their revisions. DrawSort does not decide which governs: you confirm.
Equipment tags such as AHU-1, VAV-12 and
EF-3, and room numbers, are pulled from the printed text, or
from the image on scanned sheets, each with the list of sheets it was found on.
A plan numbered A2.6 and titled as a life-safety plan stays
under Architectural and also shows up in the Life-Safety Drawings view. The
view selects by discipline or by a list of title terms.
Open any sheet to see the tags and rooms found on it. Click a tag to jump to the other sheets it was found on.
Corrections that stick: fix a sheet number and the correction is anchored to that sheet, so it carries into the next run. Any that no longer match a sheet are listed for you. Tag and room corrections are matched by the tag or room value.
Discipline comes from the sheet prefix, M, E,
EP, P, FP, LS,
ATC, so the set sorts the way it was drawn. A sheet with no
readable prefix may get a discipline guessed from keywords in its title block
text, marked for review; otherwise the discipline is left blank. A title,
date or revision the title block does not give can be filled from the set's
sheet index and is marked as taken from the index. Sheets and equipment tags
show whether they were read from text or from a scanned image.
You see how many sheets the index lists and how many it found in the set. If the sheet index is a scan, its rows are read from the image, and each sheet it lists that DrawSort did not find is marked as a candidate for you to confirm. Sheets in the set that the index does not list are flagged too. The index may be partial, or they may be additions, so you decide.
No sheet index in the set, or a typed index of fewer than 10 rows? It says "No drawing index found" and skips the check. If at least 8 sheet numbers were read and none of them is in the index, the index is set aside, not used.
Sheets whose title or revision disagrees with the index are listed, and the report names the fields that differ across them, so you compare each one with the index yourself. Each finding says "verify which is current".
In the linked PDF export, on sheets with a text layer, a tag it found links to that tag's list of sheets, and a known sheet number printed on another sheet links to that sheet. An export links at most 800 sheet numbers and tags, sheet numbers first. On scanned sheets, tags and rooms are read from the image and marked as candidates for you to confirm. A scanned page has no text layer, so it gets no in-page links.
Life safety is a purpose, not a discipline. For a building, you can prepare an evidence package: the approved baseline, what the uploaded set holds against it, a named reviewer's decisions, and the original sheets appended. It is a record of the drawings, not a compliance finding.
On a PDF with a text layer, rules read the title block from the text. A vision model also reads an image of the title block, within the job's cost cap, and the two reads are merged.
A scanned page is read from the image and marked for you to confirm.
Once the sheets are read, DrawSort compares the set with its own index and lists the sheets it did not find, extra sheets, duplicate numbers and disagreements.
Counts are as drawn in the sets you loaded. They are not a field inventory.
The readiness report opens with what it could not establish: sheets a spend cap left unread, checks that could not run without an index, and what is outside its scope. Those are three different statements, and they are kept apart.
Files you can hand to a surveyor, a contractor or a CFO.
The PDF, HTML and Excel exports say "Made with DrawSort".
